A simple but important tip: When someone looks at you from behind, only your heels should be visible, not your feet. This small detail makes a big difference in how graceful your saree looks. That’s why it’s always a good idea to wear your heels before draping your saree. This ensures the saree length is set correctly from the beginning, and you won’t have to adjust it later
How to set Pallu of Saree for a Graceful Look?
The way you drape your saree pallu can completely change your overall look. If it’s set right, it adds grace and elegance effortlessly. When draping a saree, start by bringing the pallu from the left side and placing it over your right shoulder. Make sure it’s not too short or too long—finding the perfect saree length is key to maintaining a balanced and stylish appearance.

How to Decide the Perfect Saree Pallu Length?

I personally love my pallu to be a little longer than my knees—around the calf area. If I had to be precise, I’d say 2-3 inches below the knee is the perfect length.
A longer pallu adds elegance, makes the saree look more graceful, and even creates the illusion of added height. That’s why getting this step right is crucial.
Once you’ve decided on the pallu length, hold the upper part of the pallu firmly, bring it towards your left leg from behind, and tuck it in neatly on the left side. Secure it with pins in a slight downward slanting motion to keep the drape in place and looking effortlessly elegant!
how to make perfect pleats for saree?
First, we will make pleats. You’ll notice there’s a lot of fabric in the front—this is what we’ll pleat. To create pleats, hold the fabric with your right hand. Place your index finger in front, thumb at the back, and use your middle finger to support the index finger. The little finger will support the thumb.
At this point, it may seem difficult, but after trying it once or twice, you’ll find it easier.
For the first pleat, position your fingers as mentioned and place the pleat in front of your belly button. The key here is to check if you are getting a straight line. If not, adjust the fabric until it forms a straight line. Once you achieve the perfect alignment, this is the point where your first pleat is set.
Now, hold the pleats in place using your index and middle fingers. You may notice some extra fabric on the right side—ignore that for now and focus on making the pleats perfect. Once the first pleat is set, twist your fingers to create the second pleat.
An important point to remember: the second pleat should always be slightly smaller than the first one. This ensures that the pleats look neat and structured. After making the second pleat, the third, fourth, fifth, and so on should all be of the same size and length—only the first pleat will be slightly larger.
Once all your pleats are ready, gather them neatly and clean them up to ensure they look uniform. At this point, you can also secure them with a pin to prevent them from unraveling.
Now, adjust the length according to your height and place the pleats properly. Any extra fabric on the right side should be neatly tucked in—this fabric will get hidden under the pallu and won’t be visible. Finally, tuck the left side in securely.

Now comes the last and most important step—pinning the pallu in place! Once you’ve decided on the perfect length, secure it with a pin at the right spot.
